Welcoming the Stranger: Thien Lieng's story

Victory Garden

The Victory Garden enables members, English as Second Language students, immigrants and community volunteers to learn about and practice sound and sustainable urban gardening.  The Victory Garden fosters real and diverse community, and provides fresh food for Interfaith Food Shuttle.  All ages and experience levels welcome every Saturday morning.  Provide a light lunch on Wednesdays to ESL students before working in the garden.

Contact Donna Wolcott to participate.  Learn more about the garden here.

Clothing Closet

The Clothing Closet receives clothing and household donations for refugees, ESL students, and Family Promise guests.  Bring your donations to the Lake Boone Side Entrance by the main offices.  We collect men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing in all sizes, along with bed linens and small household appliances.  Women’s accessories are also great,ly appreciated. You can contribute by donating items, setting up for a give-away event, or helping with distribution.  Contact Vickie Adamson for donation information.

ESL Camp

Highland partners with Lacy Elementary School teachers to provide a day camp each July for ESL children.  Elementary aged campers grow in their ability to speak English, enjoy community and new experiences together.  Church members provide transportation for students to and from camp, and assist Lacy teachers with camp groups.  Contact Laura Black for more information.
