WORSHIP - Sacraments
The United Methodist Church recognizes two sacraments as ordained by Christ:
BAPTISM is a sign of God's grace and human response. It
is initiation into the community of faith and is celebrated within the
worship service. Arrangements for either infant or adult baptism
may be made by calling the church office.
THE LORD'S SUPPER, THE EUCHARIST, OR HOLY COMMUNION is the central
celebration of the Christian Faith. It is a:
-
Remembrance of Christ's sacrificial death and glorious resurrection;
-
Celebration of God's covenant of forgiveness, love and hope;
-
Reminder of God's presence among us;
-
Channel of grace which helps strengthen and renew our faith.
In keeping with the practice of the early church and our Wesleyan heritage,
Holy communion is celebrated at all Sunday services on the first Sunday of
each month. Evening celebrations are observed on Christmas Eve and Maundy
Thursday. All who wish to know the presence of God in community as it has been
made known in Jesus Christ are welcome to share this bread and cup.
