Music Ministry This Week at Highland

"Ringing Apps" What is Highland's best application of inspired musical teamwork? Handbells of course! (Actually, there's no need to involve your iPhone; that was simply an effort to entice your interest.) If you know how to read music and usually know your right hand from your left, come explore ringing beginning January 6th. We'll learn the basics of ringing every Wednesday from 6 to 6:40pm in the handbell room. No pressure.........just fun casual ringing. All Highland folks from grade 9 through adults are welcome. Contact Ann Pearce (787-4142 or email) for more information about "Bells Alive."

Children's Choirs

Highland’s Children’s Choirs are for all children ages 3 through 6th grade who enjoy singing, playing musical games and rhythm instruments, fellowship with others their age, and providing a music ministry to others both inside and outside the church.   Children do not need to be a member of the church to participate.  The choirs are part of our Cross Training program, however a child does not have to participate in the program to sing the choir.  All rehearsals are on Wednesdays from September until May. Directors: Earleen Barnes & Kelly Phillips (Joyful Noise).

O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!” (Psalm 95)

Cherub Choir
Ages 3&4  -  Room 101
4:25 - 4:55 pm

For this age group we use the music curriculum God’s Children Sing by Musikgarten. We sing, move to music, play rhythm and melodic instruments, and share our music with the congregation on two Sundays during the traditional school year.  A music packet with a CD and songbook to accompany the curriculum is available for purchase.

ChildrensChoirs

Joyful Noise
Grades K & 1  -  Choir Room
5:00 - 5:45 pm

In addition to singing, these children play music theory games, rhythm and melodic instruments, and sing with the Hosanna choir during worship services about six Sundays from September through May. In addition, they participate in the Christmas pageant, Christmas Eve service, and sing to our shut-ins both in their homes, and in nursing homes.

Hosanna Choirbellplates (300)
Grades 2 & 3  -  Handbell Room
5:00-5:45pm

Along with singing with the Joyful Noise as mentioned above, the children in this choir are introduced to handbells by learning to play the Belleplates during the choir year. They also learn songs and begin reading music.

Chorister Choir
Grades 4, 5 & 6  -  Choir Room
6:30-7:30pm

The Choristers continue to grow in music skills, building on the activities of the younger choirs. They also sing during worship services and participate in the Christmas Pageant and Christmas Eve services. The highlight for these singers is a musical presented during both traditional worship services in the spring. Some of the musicals sung in the past are: Gospelanimals, Cool in the Furnace, Down by the Creekbank, Storytellin’ Man, and Tale of the Three Trees. It’s always exciting to find out what this year’s selection will be!
