Highland has a wonderful, vibrant music ministry with opportunities for all ages to make a joyful noise to the Lord with voices and instruments.
Chancel Choir
Chancel Choir sings each week for the 11:00 service, performing a variety of styles ranging form spirituals to classical masterworks. Each year they perform two longer works, often with instrumentalists. Soloists and small ensembles often provide music for the 8:30 service, as well as the offertory at the 11:00 service. Chancel choir rehearses from 7:45 until 9:15 each Wednesday evening in the choir room from August through June. Director: Jeff Whicker.
Celebration Singers
The Celebration Singers sing twice a month at the 8:30 service and for special events. They perform special works at Christmas and Easter. The group is open to anyone, regardless of singing experience, who enjoys singing a variety of music with an emphasis on contemporary anthems. They rehearse on Sunday afternoon at 5:00 in the choir room from September through May. Director: Jeff Whicker.
Connection Praise Band
Singers and instrumentalists who want to perform contemporary music are invited to audition for the Praise Band which provides music for the 8:45 AM contemporary service (“The Connection”) in Bradley Hall. The group rehearses on Tuesday evenings in Bradley Hall at 6:45 throughout the year. Directors: Don Templeton & Jeff Whicker.
Highland's children's choirs offer wonderful opportunities to grow and serve through music for children ages 3 through 5th grade, as well as a music play time for infants & toddlers.
HUMRingers
With our HUMRingers handbell choir, experienced adult and senior-high youth have the opportunity to ring at least once each month in worship services during the school year. This choir also participates in handbell festivals, special sessions with well-known clinicians, and in mini-festivals. They also periodically offer concerts for the church, retirement communities, and other congregations. They utilize five octaves of Malmark handbells and four octaves of choirchimes. Newcomers are welcome to join any time. Musicians from grade nine through adults who are interested in learning to ring are invited to take part in handbell orientation scheduled at times convenient to those participating. Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 6:45 to 8:00 in the Handbell Room on the second floor above Bradley Hall. Director: Ann Pearce.
Highland Winds
For youth and adults, this ensemble combines brass, woodwinds, and strings, and provides instrumental music approximately five times a year. The group rehearses on Tuesdays at 5:45 pm in the Sanctuary. All types of instrumentalists are invited and encouraged to participate. Director: Jeff Whicker.
