Upcoming Highlanders' Events
Our "mature adult" group has a very busy and exciting calendar for the months ahead.

Another Season of Great Fun and Fellowship
If you are a “mature adult” and new to Highland or the Highlanders, we encourage you to come and participate in this group with its interesting activities, food, and fellowship! In addition to our monthly meetings with speakers and lunches, a number of day trips are scheduled each year. Also, normally, two times each year the Highlanders offer an extended, overnight, 3 or 4 day trip for those who wish to participate.
There is no “minimum age specification” for Highlanders; and any and all mature adults are welcome to participate. There are no “Dues” and the only requirement is to pay for your own lunches or trip costs when you elect to attend and participate. Look at the activities described below as we continue with many winter activities. Make your plans to join in with this wonderful fellowship group!

Thursday, December 1 – Theater & Lunch Trip to Selma – will proceed as planned for those who pre-registered and ordered tickets.

Tuesday December 13, Tour of NC Art Museum's "Rembrandt in America” – Those registered must be in the East Building lobby area of the NC Museum of Art (the original building) by 1:45 pm at latest. A full listing of further instructions and other suggestions is available on the church reception desk.

Tuesday, December 20, 11:30 am - Annual Christmas Concert-Luncheon Featuring Caroling by Children’s Center
Please put this date on your calendar as this is when the little, pre-school children from the Highland Children Center will entertain the Highlanders with Christmas music. The children’s musical entertainment will be followed by a catered luncheon costing about $8.00. We also will have Jeff Whicker lead the group in singing Christmas carols after lunch. Please sign up for the luncheon by December 16, 2011.

Tuesday, January 17, 2012, 11:30 am  Luncheon and Presentation by Robin Zook - Pharmacist -- Medications for Older Adults
Robin Zook, Certified Geriatric Pharmacist, MTM Pharmacy Associates in Cary, will present a very informative program in which she will discuss "Medications Used by Older Adults." It is important to be aware of the interactions that can occur among various medications. Her program will be followed by a catered luncheon. Please sign up for this event at the reception desk no later than January 13, 2012.

Tuesday, February 21, 11:30 am - Luncheon and Presentation by Bill McCrea, Museum of History -- New Chronological Exhibit - "The Story of North Carolina"
Bill McCrea, Design Section Chief at the N.C. Museum of History, will discuss the new chronological historical exhibit - "The Story of North Carolina." He will focus on one of the MOH's prized artifacts, the house that carpenter Solomon Robson built in 1742 in Pitt County. This house was dismantled and reconstructed in the museum. His program will be followed by a catered luncheon. Please sign up for this event at the reception desk no later than February 17, 2012. Please note: We will be planning a day trip in the church bus to the museum to view the new exhibit at a later time.

Tuesday, March 20, 11:30 am - Program by Holocaust Survivor
Please put March 20, 2012 on your calendar as an outstanding luncheon program has been planned. The speaker will be Morris Glass, a Polish Jew who will tell his story as a "holocaust survivor." A quote from the book describing his experiences: "I was born in Pabianice, Poland, on April 3, 1928. Eleven years later on September 1, 1939, the German army with all of its armor and motorized vehicles marched into Poland and changed my life forever. The next six years were absolute hell for me and the Jews of Poland ....."
Further details for the luncheon and program will be forthcoming.
