In October, Highland’s garden provided over 100 lbs of peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, radishes, lettuce, arugula, onions, okra, turnip and mustard greens to “Plant a Row for the Hungry”, an outreach of Interfaith Food Shuttle, with a drop off site at Logan’s Nursery. The first week in November, Cullen took a whopping donation of 778 pounds! (Well, yes, most of that was leftover pumpkins. Did you know that the green ones make the best pumpkin pies?) Last Saturday’s donation was 50 pounds, a wonderful blessing from a fall garden. Our vegetables are reaching those families that really can use fresh produce. Thanks for your continuing support of the garden.
Most of the organic scraps from Highland's kitchen are being placed in the garden’s compost bins. Please give Aileen Tarver praises for personally taking on this composting mission.
We’ll have a work party this Saturday, harvesting luffas and gourds, and taking down the vines. Constructive destruction! Work begins at 9:30 a.m.
A donation to Highland UMC Community Victory Garden will help with costs for the fall planting. Simply put Garden on the subject line of your check to HUMC.
